How can a Dietitian help an NDIS participant?
Your disability may mean you have trouble preparing food for yourself, eating enough, or understanding the nutrition you need. This could be because of physical, cognitive, or psychosocial disability. An NDIS-registered dietitian can provide crucial support tailored to your specific needs.
Nutrition supports available
Dietitian's can assist NDIS participants in many areas of nutrition including:
- Personalised Meal Plans: A dietitian can develop a meal plan suited to your dietary needs and preferences.
- Assistance with Meal Preparation: Support may include help with planning and preparing meals.
- Nutritional Supplements: If necessary, dietitians can recommend supplements to ensure you get the nutrients you need.
- Meal Delivery Services: For those unable to prepare meals, there are options for assistance in organising meals to be delivered to your home.
- Home Enteral Nutrition (HEN): If you require tube feeding, dietitians can provide support and guidance for HEN, including equipment and product recommendations.
- Restrictive Eating: Children with conditions such as Autism Spectrum Disorder and sensory processing challenges often face difficulties in expanding their diets. A dietitian can assist by recommending appropriate foods that offer the necessary nutrients when introducing new items into their diet.

What Nutrition Supports doesn't the NDIS cover?
The NDIS does not cover nutrition supports for health issues unrelated to your disability. This includes conditions such as:
- Weight loss programs
- Eating disorders
- Food allergies
- Diabetes
- Cardiovascular disease
- Renal disease
- Polycystic ovarian syndrome
- Irritable bowel syndrome

I went onto the website and put in my information, within two minutes I had a phone call. I spoke to Ellen who was absolutely lovely and did a fantastic job explaining everything I needed to know and making me feel calm in a situation I've never had to navigate before. Definitely recommend this company (and the happy Ellen) to any parent/person who's looking for help in a plan manager.
