A Functional Capacity Assessment (FCA) is a comprehensive evaluation of a participant's abilities and needs in daily life. Conducted by an Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist, the assessment covers communication, mobility, self-care, social participation, and engagement in learning and work. Based on the findings, the therapist recommends the level of NDIS support needed to enhance outcomes and achieve personal goals.
To ensure participants receive the right services and support, the NDIS requires a Functional Capacity Assessment every two years to assess baseline function and assist with goal setting.
During a Functional Capacity Assessment (FCA), the Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist conducts an initial evaluation, asking questions to understand the client’s baseline abilities. They may also perform specific assessments to further support their findings.
