Did you know, Victorians with a severe disability which prevents them from safely and independently using public transport could be eligible for a 50% discount on Uber travel(1)?

After 262 days in lockdown, it's time to get out and about. Karista has partnered with Uber to help people with a disability understand how to access the state government initiative called the Multi Purpose Taxi Program (MPTP). The program provides a subsidy to eligible Victorians, providing them with half price taxi and rideshare travel.

Last year, in an Australian-first, the Victorian Government expanded the MPTP to include Uber. The MPTP subsidy covers 50% of the trip cost for eligible participants, capped at up to $60 per trip, with an annual cap of $2,180. Eligible riders must meet the residential, medical and financial criteria set out by Commercial Passenger Vehicles Victoria (CPVV).

There’s a few big reasons to try the Uber app with the MPTP subsidy:

• Upfront transparency - you'll always see the fare estimate in advance, so there's no surprises once you reach your destination.

• Simple - your subsidy is automatically applied to the upfront price shown when you request a ride. No need to carry the physical MPTP card.

• Reliable - you can get a ride in minutes, at the tap of a button. No trip is too big or too small. With the Uber Reserve feature you can also book important trips up to 30 days in advance, or up to two hours before, with an upfront locked-in price.

• Convenient - with the Saved Places feature you can save addresses you visit frequently - like a family member's house, the doctor's office or the local shops.

• Safety support – let the people you love know where you are in real time, via Uber’s ‘Share My Trip’ feature in the in-app Safety Toolkit.
